چکیده

We have previously shown that human papillomavirus (HPV) genotyping, using the cobas HPV Test (Roche Molecular Systems, Pleasanton, CA), can be used to identify women with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US) at the highest risk for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) grade 2 or worse. We investigated the impact of age stratification on the risk of CIN 2 or worse in women with ASC-US and the performance of HPV genotyping in different age strata. The sensitivity of the cobas HPV Test was 93.3% in the 21- to 29-year-old age group and 67.7% in the 40 years or older group, most likely owing to pathologic misclassification of CIN 2 or worse in older women. The prevalence of CIN 2 or worse in younger women was nearly 4-fold that detected in older women and was predominantly HPV-16-related. Age-specific evaluation of ASC-US cytology in conjunction with HPV genotype status enables more effective risk assessment and could be used in clinical management.

High-risk human papillomavirus testing in women with ASC-US cytology: results from the ATHENA HPV study.

This study evaluated the clinical performance of the cobas 4800 HPV Test (Roche Molecular Systems, Pleasanton, CA) for high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) testing with individual HPV-16/HPV-18 genotyping in women 21 years or older with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US). Women (N = 47,208) were recruited in the United States during routine screening, and liquid-ba...

HPV-DNA testing for patients with ASC-US helps identify the women who have a high risk for precancerous cervical lesions

BACKGROUND The cytological interpretation of ASC-US represents a category of morphologic uncertainty. For patients with this result, other tests are necessary in order to determine the risk for cervical lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS 198 patients with ASC-US cytology have been analyzed between 2008 and 2013. All the patients included in the study have subsequently had a high oncogenic HPV tes...

HPV mRNA testing in triage of women with ASC-US cytology may reduce the time for CIN2+diagnosis compared with repeat cytology.

BACKGROUND In delayed HPV triage women with atypical squamous cells of uncertain significance (ASC-US) cytology are retested after 6-12 months in order to decide whether they should be referred for colposcopy, further follow-up cytology or routine screening in three years. Triage using a specific HPV E6/E7 mRNA test may reduce referrals for colposcopy of women with ASC-US cytology compared to H...

Human papillomavirus triage of patients with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance on cervical Papanicolaou smear.

INTRODUCTION The recent development of affordable human papillomavirus (HPV) testing has prompted consideration of its use as adjuvant and primary screening for cervical dysplasia. This review focuses on the use of HPV testing in triage management of atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US) Pap smears. MATERIALS AND METHODS A Medline search was performed for articles rele...

Pnm-17: Cost Effectiveness of Human Papillomavirus Testing in Cervical Cancer Diagnosis

Background: Epidemiological studies are shown robust association between human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cancer. From 1990 HPV was known as a necessary but insufficient cause of cervical invasive cancer. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cost effectiveness of HPV test in cervical cancer screening. Materials and Methods: This is a systematic review article; the newest scienti...
